Anti-India Mahathir Mohammad tasted defeat for the first time in 53 years

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has faced a crushing defeat in the general election for the first time in 53 years. Mahathir Mohamad also lost his parliamentary seat in Saturday’s general election. It is believed that after this defeat, the political career of 97-year-old Mahathir Mohammad is also over.

Malaysia’s veteran leader Mahathir Mohamad has been the country’s Prime Minister twice before. This is the same Mahathir Mohammad who had developed closeness with Pakistani leader Imran Khan and opposed India on many issues. Mahathir had given refuge to India’s fugitive Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in Malaysia.

Mahathir Mohamad made Guinness World Record
In 2018, he was listed by the Guinness World Records as the “world’s oldest prime minister”. Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad once again filed his name in the Prime Minister’s election to get the highest seat of power. But he had to be satisfied with the fourth position.

It was Mahathir Mohamad’s first electoral defeat in the last 53 years. Mahathir Mohamad was the Prime Minister of Malaysia for 22 years from 1981 to 2003. After this he announced his retirement. He then re-entered politics and won the election in 2018 to become the Prime Minister of Malaysia. At that time his age was 92 years. Prior to the election, Mahathir had claimed that his party had a good chance of winning the election. He also dismissed suggestions that he would retire.
