There is so much personal data, login credentials and other important details about you on your smartphone that you cannot afford to lose it. Here we have some steps for you how to find that phone first and then, lock it remotely or delete all its data.

How to search, lock or delete data on the device

  • Sign in with a Google Account using the Android device you have. If you are signed in with more than one account, make sure you are signed in to the main profile.
  • First you go to https://www.google.com/android/find?u=0. Or you can google “find my device” and then get here.
  • As soon as the Find My Device web page opens, a notification is sent to the lost phone.

  • If you think that the phone has not received any notification, then click on the refresh page button coming to the right side of the lost phone photo appearing on the page.
  • Now, a notification will be sent to the lost phone again. As soon as the phone gets the notification, you will get to see its location on the map. Otherwise, you will still be able to see its last location.
  • You’ll also see three options on the left side of the screen: Play Sound, Secure Device, and Erase Device. If you choose the former, your phone will ring at full volume for a full 5 minutes, even if it is on silent or vibration mode.

  • Clicking on Secure device locks your phone remotely with your PIN, password or screen lock. If you didn’t set any of them back when you had the phone, you can still set a new one. Also, you can send a message with any other contact number or pin/password/screen lock to help someone reach you in case someone gets the call.
  • Clicking on Erase Device will permanently delete all the data in the phone’s native storage. Deleting all the data will also erase the Find My Device functionality on the device, so be careful with this step.
