Amarinder Singh joins BJP

New Delhi. Captain Amarinder Singh has joined the BJP after 10 months of breaking away from the Congress and has also merged his party Punjab Lok Congress with the BJP. Last year, he was suddenly removed from the post of Chief Minister of Punjab, after which he left the Congress. On Monday, he met BJP National President JP Nadda in Delhi and after that he joined BJP by going to the party headquarters. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar got him the membership of BJP.

Eighty-year-old Captain Amarinder Singh also merged his Punjab Lok Congress with the BJP. During this, when he was asked why his wife Preneet Kaur did not join the BJP, he said that it is not necessary that the wife should do what her husband does. However, the reason for his wife and Congress MP from Patiala Preneet Kaur not joining the BJP is because she does not want to lose her Parliament membership. She will leave the Congress before the elections.

However, along with Amarinder Singh, seven former MLAs and a former MP have also joined the BJP. The Punjab Lok Congress had contested the assembly elections in alliance with the BJP and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal United. However, none of its candidates could win and Amarinder Singh himself also lost from his stronghold Patiala city seat.

The script for Amarinder Singh joining the BJP was written soon after the assembly elections. Recently, he had gone to London for spinal surgery. After returning from there, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, when asked about the SYL controversy when he joined the BJP on Monday, he said his first priority was the interest of Punjab.
