All RWAs will be ‘mini councillors’ if AAP wins MCD polls: CM Kejriwal

Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wins the municipal elections, all Residents Welfare Associations in the national capital will have their own ‘mini corporators’ and they will be handed over powers in a phased manner.

During an interaction with the representatives of Residents Welfare Association (RWA), Kejriwal said that AAP will provide them basic minimum funds. Elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on December 4 and the counting of votes will take place on December 7. Kejriwal said, “The public will no longer remain as mute spectators or consumers.

Each RWA will have its own mini-councillor and they will be assigned powers in a phased manner.” He added, “We will also hold extensive consultations on these issues. If we successfully implement this idea of involving residents in the MCD, it will become an example for the entire country.”

The AAP national convenor also sought suggestions from the RWA representatives of Malviya Nagar, Patparganj, Mayur Vihar, Kalkaji, Greater Kailash, Chittaranjan Park and Khirki Extension during the interaction. RWA representatives of villages and unauthorized colonies were also present in the meeting.

Kejriwal had on Tuesday announced that RWAs in the national capital would be given “financial and political” powers and given the status of ‘mini corporators’ if the AAP is voted to power in the MCD.
