India’s largest airline IndiGo was currently charging additional charges for passengers requesting boarding passes at the check-in counter.
The Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday said airlines cannot charge any additional charges while issuing boarding passes at the check-in counters. With this clarification, passengers will no longer have to pay any additional charges for check-in at airport counters. Earlier, airlines used to charge an additional fee of Rs 200 for this service.
Let us inform you that India’s largest airline IndiGo was currently charging extra charges for passengers requesting boarding passes at the check-in counter. The ministry said on Twitter that it has come to the notice of the Ministry of Civil Aviation that airlines are charging additional fees from passengers for asking for boarding passes. The procedure for levying this additional fee is not as per the provisions of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
However, due to the skyrocketing price of jet fuel and the continued depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar, airlines are forced to increase fares. This decision of the ministry will benefit only those domestic passengers who do not check-in online but do check-in by standing in a queue at the airport.
