Adani Ports will expand the capacity of Haldia Dock in Bengal, tie up with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port

Ahmedabad. Adani Port, a company of the Adani Group, is going to expand the capacity of Haldia Port in West Bengal. Under this, Haldia Port’s berth no. 2 will be mechanized. In February this year, SMPK selected APSEZ as a successful contender.

HDC Bulk Terminal Limited (HBTL), a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), India’s largest Integrated Transport Utility Company and Adani Group company, has partnered with Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port Kolkata (SMPK) at berth no. Concession Agreement has been signed for the mechanization of 2 Haldia Port.

Karan Adani, CEO and Whole Time Director, APSEZ said, “With the mechanization and development of Haldia Bulk Terminal, Adani Group will get an opportunity to increase its presence in Bengal. He said that we are committed to continuously accelerate the growth of industries and economy in Bengal. With this fully mechanized facility, we aim to set a high benchmark towards port operations and environmental safety.

Best ports to be found in East India

Adani Group has said that this terminal is an important step towards world class ports and terminals on the east coast of India. This agreement will significantly enhance HBTL’s efficiency in integrated logistics and benefit the shipping industry. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 298 crore. The project has already got the necessary environment clearance.

facilities will increase at haldia port

As per this agreement between SMPK and HBTL, the Special Purpose Vehicle for the project will get the rights to design, build, finance, operate, maintain and manage the bulk terminal with a capacity of 3.74 million tonnes per annum. The Haldia Dock Complex also includes various bulk handling facilities in Haldia under the purview of SMPK.

Up to Nepal including eastern India will get the benefit

The Haldia Dock Complex will greatly benefit the business in the eastern part of India. The port will become a major center of business activity for a large area including Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, the northeastern hill states and neighboring Nepal. This port will greatly aid the supply chain of raw materials to steel plants, power plants and cement plants.
