Kathmandu. At least 17 people were killed and five are missing after they were buried in a landslide that occurred overnight in Nepal’s Achham district due to incessant rains since Friday morning. A local official gave this information on Saturday.
According to official sources, the landslide occurred in the night due to incessant rains in the district since yesterday morning. During this, some houses were hit by landslides in three different parts of the district in far-western Nepal.
Min Raj Acharya, a district official said rescue teams have recovered the bodies of 17 people and rescued 11 injured from the spot. Search is on for five missing people. Army and police have been deployed for the rescue operation, he said.
Acharya said three of the injured were in critical condition and were airlifted to the neighboring province for treatment. Being a Himalayan country, Nepal is prone to natural calamities like landslides and flash floods during monsoon. (talk)
