14 year old Namya Kapoor created history by winning gold medal in Junior World Shooting Championship

ISSF Junior World Championship: India’s 14-year-old shooter Namya Kapoor on Monday created history by winning the gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Shooting Championships. Namya won this gold medal in the 25m pistol event. She captured this gold, leaving behind Manu Bhaker, India’s star shooter, who participated in the Tokyo Olympics.

Namya Kapoor won the gold medal in the final with a score of 36 points in the 25m pistol event played yesterday at the ISSF Junior World Shooting Championships. In the final, Camille Jedrzejewski of France took the silver with 33 points and 19-year-old Manu Bhaker shot for the bronze medal with 31 points.

Silver slipped from Bhaker’s hands in shoot-off

Manu Bhaker has so far won three gold medals in this ISSF Junior World Shooting Championship held in Lima, the capital of Peru. In the 25m pistol event yesterday, Bhaker had a chance to win silver. But she missed the silver medal shoot-off match with France’s Camille Jarjewski. Another Indian shooter Rhythm Sangwan finished fourth in this event.

In the qualification round of this event, Manu Bhaker qualified for the final with 587 points, while Sangwan finished second with 586 points. While Kapoor made it to the finals with 580 points in sixth place.

India tops medal tally

India currently remains at the top position in the medal tally of the ISSF Junior World Shooting Championships. India has so far won seven gold, six silver and three bronze medals in this tournament. This is the first event after the Tokyo Olympics. 370 athletes from 32 countries are participating here.
