10 killed in massive fire in Male, Indians are also likely to be among the dead

Male. A fire broke out in a ‘garage’ in Male, killing 10 people, while several others were injured. Migrant laborers lived on the first floor of this building. This information was given in a media report. Indian citizens are also expected to be involved in those who lost their lives.

The Indian High Commission tweeted, “Saddened to hear about the fire incident in Male, in which many people have lost their lives and among them are reportedly Indian nationals. We are in touch with the Maldivian authorities. According to the news platform ‘SunOnline’, the fire broke out at M. Nirufefi near Mavio Masjid at around 12.30 pm. The ‘garage’ was on the ground floor and the migrant laborers lived on the first floor. The Maldives National Defense Forces Fire and Rescue Service said 28 people were evacuated from the building, while nine were still missing.

According to reports, seven people were found dead, while two people with serious burns were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Firefighters later recovered two more bodies from the building. The fire was brought under control at 4:34 am. Male has a population of 250,000 million, half of whom are migrants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. (Language)
