ICMR Guidelines For School Reopen: Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, schools are not being opened regularly across the country. During the one-and-a-half year of the Corona period, it was decided to open schools many times, but the increasing cases pulled back the steps of the government time and again. At present, schools are being opened in many states from class 9th to class 12th, but there is still fear about opening schools for young children. Meanwhile, now ICMR has issued a guideline regarding the opening of schools.

A report has revealed that the social, physical and mental development of children has been severely affected due to lack of school. Talking about India, about 32 crore children have been affected due to the closure of schools for more than 500 days during the Corona period in the country. In such a situation, now the ICMR has advised schools to organize classes in the old method i.e. open spaces or under trees. Along with this, it has also been said that the risk of corona infection in children of primary schools is low, in such a situation, primary schools should be opened first and then secondary schools should be opened.

Bad effect on the development of children

Scientists say that in the month of August, it has come to the fore that only 24 percent of children living in cities have been able to do regular classes. Due to the lockdown of schools during the Corona period, children studied through online classes. Whereas only 8 per cent of the children living in slums and rural areas continued to take regular classes. It has been told that this survey was done on 1362 houses in 15 states of India. This survey was done on children from weaker sections. More than 50 percent of the children involved were unable to read more than a few words. At the same time, parents of children also believe that their children’s ability to read has been affected badly.

Now ICMR has insisted on opening schools. The ICMR report has advised that primary and then secondary schools should be opened first. Because the risk of corona infection has been seen less in children than in adults. This is because children have fewer ACE 2 receptors than adults. These receptors are in the respiratory tract and the virus grows by sticking to them. Therefore, it has been said in the report that the school college should be opened in the normal way as before. Along with this, it has also been advised that in the states or cities where there are more cases of corona, a decision can be taken to open schools in a different way.

ICMR suggested these measures

ICMR has suggested that in India, classes can be held in the open under trees as before. The same is being done in the Netherlands, America and Denmark. Assembly halls and large areas of the school can be used for studies. Apart from this, it has been advised in the report to open schools that classrooms should be ventilated, young children should be exempted from wearing masks. Students above 12 years can use masks like adults. Whereas children of 6 to 11 years can apply masks according to their ability.

At the same time, in the report, it has been said to give exemption for online studies to such children who have weak immune system, are suffering from chronic illness or have corona patients in their home.
